What is the Importance of the Modern Periodic Table?

There is a link to the periodic table at the bottom of each page.
It is important because the periodic table shows all the elements.


What are Groups and Periods
and how are Elements Arranged in the Modern Periodic Table?

The elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic number.
The columns (going down) are called groups.
The rows (going across) are called periods (hence periodic table).
The atomic number increases from left to right across the period.


Where are Metals and Non-Metals in the Modern Periodic Table?

Elements which are metals (shown as brown or pink) are on the left
and in the centre of the table.
Elements which are non-metals (shown as blue) are on the right.
