How Science Works

The Scientific Method.

Science has its own language.
You will find science much easier to understand if you
learn some of the words of this language.

Anything that happens is called a phenomenon.
Things generally are called phenomena.

Information which comes from making measurements
is called data. When data is used to try to tell if things
are true or false, the data is called evidence.
The scientific method says that we can only use evidence
which is reliable and valid. Measurements which are both
accurate and precise provide
the highest quality data and therefore the best evidence.

A person who understands the scientific method
can make intelligent comments about evidence.
Evidence may be used by people to
make decisions about what we do and how we live.
