Test for an Alkane Gas.

An Alkane Gas

1)  Has no colour.

2)  May have a smell.

3)  Has no effect on moist litmus paper
or moist universal indicator paper - it is neutral.

4)  Will burn with a blue or yellow flame.

Specific test.

There is no specific test.
The burnt gases are carbon dioxide and water - see Test for Gases.
