Isomers of Pentane.

Changing the shape of the molecule does not produce a different isomer.
A different isomer can only be made by changing the way
in which the carbon atoms are joined together (see previous page).

Look at the these illustrations of isomers of pentane below.

These isomers are all the same.
Although the shape of the molecule has been changed,
if you look at the way in which the carbon atoms are joined to each other,
you will see that isomers 2 and 3 are the same as isomer 1.
